The annual report of 2015 of the International Energy Agency's Energy in Buildings and Communities (IEA-EBC) Programme is now available. This report presents an overview of the Programme's main activities with summaries of new, ongoing and recently completed projects.

IEA EBC Annex 62 continues to build on activities in synergy with venticool. As illustration, IEA EBC Annex 62 accomplished a major milestone last November with the publication of the state-of-the-art review on ventilative cooling, now available on the venticool website. The Annex results were intensively discussed during the 36th AIVC-3rd venticool joint conference.

On February 2, 2016, the BUILD UP portal for energy efficient buildings is holding an online webstreamed event to mark the launch of the improved website. Expert speakers will present the findings of the Concerted Action EPBD.

Around 160 participants attended the joint 36th AIVC – 5th TightVent – 3rd venticool conference held in Madrid, Spain September 23-24, 2015. The programme consisted of 3 parallel sessions with contributions from 27 countries and international organisations.

Over 120 presentations were given covering topics ranging from ventilative cooling and thermal comfort, ventilation in relation to IAQ and health, air infiltration through leaks in the building envelope and ductwork.

Looking 5 years behind, it is clear that significant progress has been made in several European countries with regard to building airtightness. On the other hand, this concern is still lagging behind in many regions and/or building sectors, although relevant in terms of energy savings and indoor environmental quality.

The 3rd QUALICHeCK Conference wil take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 10-11 May 2016. The conference will cover, among others:

The QUALICHeCK webinar: "Building airtightness and initiatives to improve the quality of the works" will be held on Tuesday 12 January 2016, 10:00-11:30 (Brussels time). The objective of this webinar is to give background information on selected initiatives to improve the quality of the works with respect to building airtightness.

This webinar is part of a broader series focusing on ventilative cooling in energy performance, within the context of compliance with building regulations in several countries.

The webinar is organised by the QUALICHeCK consortium (www.qualicheck-platform.eu), in cooperation with the IEA project on ventilative cooling “EBC IEA Annex 62” (venticool.eu/annex-62-home), venticool (venticool.eu) and the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre.
