AIVC Newsletter, Special Issue COVID-19, November 2020

The AIVC board decided in their last (online) meeting of September 2020 to start a project to collect, discuss and disseminate information about COVID-19 in relation to ventilation and airtightness. A working group was created to define and carry out the project, with the title ‘Ventilation, airtightness and COVID-19’.  The first special issue of the AIVC newsletter is a first outcome of the project.

Highlights of this newsletter:

20 November 2020 - Upcoming Webinar "COVID-19 Ventilation related guidance by ASHRAE and REHVA"

The Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre with support from ASHRAE and REHVA  is organizing the webinar "COVID-19 Ventilation related guidance by ASHRAE and REHVA" to be held on Friday November 20th, 2020 at 16:00-17:15 (CET).  The webinar will present the guidelines by REHVA and ASHRAE and will also have a closer look to the similarities and differences in both guidelines

A Renovation Wave Strategy for Europe

On October 14th, 2020 the European Commission released its Renovation Wave Strategy. According to the communication document, “the objective is to at least double the annual energy renovation rate of residential and non-residential buildings by 2030 and to foster deep energy renovations. Mobilising forces at all levels towards these goals will result in 35 million building units renovated by 2030. The increased rate and depth of renovation will have to be maintained also post-2030 in order to reach EU-wide climate neutrality by 2050”.

IEA EBC annex 86 on “Energy Efficient Smart IAQ Management for residential buildings"

This new annex was approved in June 2020. The goal of Annex 86 is to propose an integrated rating method for the performance assessment and optimization of energy efficient strategies of managing the indoor air quality (IAQ) in new and existing residential buildings. This integrated performance assessment will accelerate the development of better and more energy efficient IAQ management strategies to address rapidly changing expectations of the home environment due to challenges such as peak oil, climate change or pandemics.

IEA EBC annex 86 on “Energy Efficient Smart IAQ Management for residential buildings" approved

On June 26th, the Executive Committee of the IEA Energy in Buildings Technology Collaboration Platform (www.iea-ebc.org) approved the proposed collaboration project “Energy Efficient Smart IAQ Management for residential buildings" as IEA EBC annex 86. This annex will propose an integrated rating method for the performance assessment and optimization of energy efficient strategies of managing the indoor air quality (IAQ) in new and existing residential buildings.
