Contributed Report 22: Quantifying population harm from indoor air contaminants in dwellings

The 46^th AIVC conference "Innovations in Smart Ventilation and IEQ for Resilient and Adaptive Buildings" will take place on September 30 & October 1, 2026 at the Songdo International District in Incheon, Republic of Korea. This international event will be held jointly with the 14^th TightVent Conference and the 12^th venticool Conference.

We are pleased to announce the release of AIVC Technical Note #74: Smart Ventilation in Residential Buildings—a comprehensive review aimed at summarizing the available evidence on the benefits of implementing smart ventilation solutions in homes.

This publication focuses on ventilation strategies and their effectiveness, which consists of IAQ benefits, non-IAQ benefits (such as thermal comfort and noise), minimizing energy consumption and minimizing utility bills, and other advantages related to indoor environmental quality (IEQ).

The AIVC is pleased to announce that the slides from the recent international workshop “Indoor Environmental Quality in Sustainable Buildings” are now available online.

The workshop took place on 1–2 April 2025 in Stuttgart, Germany, and brought together German and international researchers, engineers, and experts to exchange knowledge and share recent developments on indoor environmental quality (IEQ), ventilation, health, and sustainability in buildings.

The February 2025 edition of the REHVA Journal has been released, featuring the theme "IEQ at 44th AIVC conference, Model IEQ regulation to fulfil the EPBD 2024"!

The issue includes, among other articles, a selection of papers presented at the 44th AIVC conference - 12th TightVent - 10th venticool conference: "Retrofitting the Building Stock: Challenges and Opportunities for Indoor Environmental Quality" held in Dublin on October 9-10, 2024.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming AIVC 2025 International Workshop "Indoor Environmental Quality in Sustainable Buildings" to be held on April 1 & 2, 2025  in Stuttgart, Germany!

The workshop is organised by Fraunhofer IBP together with the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre (AIVC) and facilitated by INIVE (International Network for Information on Ventilation and Energy Performance).

On 28 May, REHVA finished the drafting of its REHVA MANIFESTO For sustainable, healthy and affordable buildings - the “2050 ready building” pact. The document emphasises the crucial role of buildings in achieving EU's 2050 carbon neutrality goals.

The AIVC 2024 workshop “Ventilation, IEQ & Sustainability" organised in collaboration with ASHRAE Singapore Chapter was held on 18-19 April 2024 in Singapore. Participation was possible in person and the event drew over 160 participants - researchers, engineers & architects and industry representatives. The programme included 21 presentations grouped into 3 sessions: “Optimising Indoor Air Quality for Climate Resilience”, “Reducing Carbon Footprints: The Role of Energy efficient Ventilation Technologies” & “Smart Building Automation for Climate-Adaptive Ventilation”.

Because of COVID-19 uncertainty of conditions to hold a face-to-face conference in Athens in September 2021, ASHRAE and AIVC decided to postpone the conference and reschedule it for May 4-6, 2022. There will not be a new call for abstracts for the rescheduled conference dates.
